One of the most significant problems with socialism is it is incompatibility with the Judeo-Christian tradition. Marx was very clear that the destruction of religion would be necessary for his system to succeed:
"Religious suffering is, at one and the same time, the expression of real suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people.
The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness. To call on them to give up their illusions about their condition is to call on them to give up a condition that requires illusions."
-Marx
Mao’s Cultural Revolution sought to destroy all forms of religion in China, and left tens of millions dead. Anyone who has basic understanding of history understands what Communism and Hitler’s National Socialism did to the Jewish people. The Jews who lived through it understand the fruits of socialism. The Christians of Russia and Eastern Europe that lived under the Soviet system, understand the fruits of socialism.
In the West, socialists have been much more subtle. They have incorporated a strategy known as “The Long March.” This strategy centered on using the freedoms of these societies, to tear down the institutions that make them resistant to the sickness that is socialism. The largest opposition socialists face is from organized religion. Therefore, they set out to defame religion, and turn the people to immorality. They took control of the media, and used it as a tool to spread pornography. They took control of the schools and used them to teach pseudoscience that directly contradicts traditional religion.
"A lie told often enough becomes truth"
-Lenin
Many are now seeking to harmonize socialism and Christianity. Even a small amount of socialism (like oil) can pollute the healthy waters of Christianity. This is why leaders from a variety of Christian traditions have been outspoken in their criticism of socialism:
"If Socialism, like all errors, contains some truth (which, moreover, the Supreme Pontiffs have never denied), it is based nevertheless on a theory of human society peculiar to itself and irreconcilable with true Christianity. Religious socialism, Christian socialism, are contradictory terms; no one can be at the same time a good Catholic and a true socialist."
-Pope John Paul II
"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience."
-Christian writer C. S. Lewis
"And, when the war ended, a sense of frustration and disillusionment gripped England, and what Hitler's bombs could not do, socialism with its accompanying evils shortly accomplished."
-Reverend Billy Graham
"In reply to the argument that a little bit of socialism is good so long as it doesn't go too far, it is tempting to say that, in like fashion, just a little bit of theft or a little bit of cancer is all right, too! History proves that the growth of the welfare state is difficult to check before it comes to its full flower of dictatorship. But let us hope that this time around, the trend can be reversed. If not then we will see the inevitability of complete socialism, probably within our lifetime."
-LDS Apostle Ezra Taft Benson
Because it is the nature of man to worship a higher power, many are traveling strange paths to fulfill this desire, which is part of our soul. We see suicide cults and an obsession with the paranormal, many are embracing the occult mysticism that drove Hitler’s National Socialism.
If our society moves further from God on the soul destroying path of socialism, we will see more of its bitter fruit. We will see more crime. We will see more broken homes. We will see future generations minds polluted in ways we never imagined. We cannot reject the light without being consumed by darkness. Is it any wonder, that Saul Alinsky the radical socialist dedicated his book "Rules for Radicals" to the original radical Lucifer.
